How to Check (See) Screen Time on Samsung Phones and Tablets

Since the invention of smartphones, the usage of these devices has increased day by day and still increases. You may be aware of the fact that you use so much your smartphone and decided to limit yourself. However, you may not know how to check your screen time on Samsung devices. Do not worry, we will provide you all the possible options to see your screen time on your Samsung device. 

Options will range from the ways in Settings to ways from Widgets. The majority of the options are the built-in options for Samsung phones and tablets and two options will be third-party applications that can be downloaded from app markets on your Samsung device.

All of the checking screen time options are available for some Samsung phones and tablets which can be exemplified by the A Series (A70, A71, A50, A51, A90), S Series (S9, S9+, S10, S10E, S10 Plus, S20, S20+, S20 Ultra, S21, S21+, S21 Ultra, S21 FE, S22, S22+, S22 Ultra, S23, S23+, S23 Ultra), Note Series (Note 9, Note 10, Note 10+, Note 20, Note 20 Ultra), Z Series (Z Fold, Z Flip, Z Fold2, Z Flip 3, Z Fold3, Z Flip4, Z Fold4), Tab Series (Tab S4, Tab Active Pro, Tab S5E, Tab S6, Tab S6 Lite, Tab S7, Tab S7+, Tab A8, Tab S8, Tab S8+). However, some of them might not be available for the older versions of Samsung.

In order to check or see your daily screen time on Samsung, find your Settings app on Samsung and tap on it.

In the settings, you can either search for screen time or screen time goal in the Search Box. You should tap on a result under Digital Wellbeing and Parental Controls.

Alternatively, you can scroll down in the settings until you find Digital Wellbeing and Parental Controls heading. As can be expected, you should tap on the relevant heading once you find it

How to Add Digital Wellbeing and Parental Control to Samsung's Apps Screen 

Once you find this page, you can add a shortcut of Digital Wellbeing and Parental Controls to your Apps Screen on your Samsung phone or tablet.

You might not be knowledgeable about the home screen and apps screen on Samsung. The Home Screen basically is the first screen you will see when you unlock your Samsung device and the App Screen is the screen that consists of your downloaded or system apps on Samsung which can be seen when you swipe up on the Home Screen as long as you set your Samsung as both Home Screen and App Screen not only as Home Screen.

In order to add the shortcut app, you should tap on Three-Vertical-Dots  at the top right of the current page.

How to Check Screen Time on Samsung by Adding Widgets

How to Add Digital Wellbeing Widget on Home Screen

Tap and hold on to any place on the Home Screen of your Samsung phone or tablet until the time you see a page which is shown in the picture below.

After that, you should tap on Widgets.

Within all the widget options offered by Samsung, find Digital Wellbeings and tap on it.

At the present time, Samsung offers three different widget designs for the Digital Wellbeing widgets on the home screen. You can decide which one you want to see on your Home Screen according to how many details you want to see on the Digital Wellbeing widget.

Once you decide, tap on the widget you want to add to your Samsung device's home screen.

How to Add Digital Wellbeing Widget to Home Screen from Apps Screen

Apart from adding the Digital Wellbeing widget to your home screen on a Samsung device by using the first option, you can follow adjust it by following the steps on the Apps Screen additionally.

On your home screen, just swipe up once to see your Apps Screen. At the top of the screen, you should see a search box. It is the exact place we will use for this option.

Finally, tap on Add to add the widget to your home screen of this particular Samsung device.

The widget will automatically be added to the home screen without any further action.

How to Add Digital Wellbeing Widget on Lock Screen

It is possible to check screen time without unlocking your Samsung phone or tablet as long as you enable the Lock Screen widgets and Digital Wellbeing widget on the Lock Screen.

Scroll down till you find the Lock Screen menu and tap on it.

At this stage, lock your Samsung device and tap on the power button or screen twice to wake the phone or tablet

On the Lock Screen, only tap once on the Clock to see Lock Screen Widgets

How to Check Screen Time on Samsung by Downloading Third-Party Apps from App Markets

In case none of the options are available for your Samsung device, you may download a third-party application from app markets like Google Play Store and Galaxy Store. We cannot provide a specific one to download but just show how to download one. Need-to-Knows for Digital Wellbeing Dashboard on Samsung

The current page (digital wellbeing dashboard) will always demonstrate your screen time on this specific Samsung device for just today but it is changeable.

As you can imagine, 3h 52m stands for the screen time for us on a particular Samsung device. Plus, you can also see the comparison of your today's screen time with the day before. 

Below them, you can see what three apps you have spent the most time on. By default, the screen time display shows apps and the screen time spent on them. You can also classify them according to the categories by tapping on "Apps ▼" and changing the Apps to Categories.

Nevertheless, you are not restricted to seeing only Today's screen time, you can also see the previous days' as well. In order to do that:

  1. Tap once on the upper area of the time screen dashboard which consists only of the time spent (3h 52), comparison, and Apps.
  2. Once you tap on it, you can see a more detailed screen as to your screen time. You can navigate on the screen by tapping on < and >.

From the top of the page, you can set the screen time dashboard to demonstrate your screen time as Apps or Categories.

Under the Screen Time heading of the overall screen time dashboard, you can see the same results that you have seen on the previous screen. However, in this one, you can tap on View More to see more than three apps' screen time on your Samsung device.

Under the Notification Received heading of the overall screen time dashboard, you can see how many times you got a notification from a specific app, their comparison with the other days of the week, and a detailed chart. Additionally, you can tap on each app to see more notification received details about the app and tap on View More to see more apps rather than the most received three ones.

Under the Unlocks heading of the overall screen time dashboard, you can see how many times you have unlocked your Samsung device and its comparison with the other days of the week.

You can also see your screen time on a specific app. In order to do that:

  1. Tap on one of the three results on the display
  2. Choose the sequence whether show it Daily or Weekly from the top of the current page and navigate on the screen by tapping on < and >.

Under the Screen Time heading of a specific app, you can see at what time you used this app and for how much time. 

Under the Notifications Received heading of a specific app, you can see how many notifications you have got from this specific app, its comparison with yesterday, and a detailed chart that demonstrates the time intervals.

Under the Times Opened heading of a specific app, you can see how many times you have opened this app during the day, its comparison with the day before, and a detailed chart that shows time intervals.

As it is a reasonable thing, the charts demonstrate days rather than hours if it is selected Weekly demonstration instead of Daily demonstration.

Screen Time Goal

In the Digital Wellbeing menu, you can set a limit for your screen time for today, tomorrow, and the days to come. With that feature, you can see whether you pass your screen time goal for the day or not. It is used for preventing too much usage of your Samsung device, it does not restrict the usage of the Samsung device after you surpass the screen time. In order to do that:

  1. Just find the Screen Time Goal heading and tap on the Set Goal button at the bottom of it. 
  2. Select the hour and minute for the screen time goal. Ultimately tap Done. Your screen time goal will be automatically adjusted by Samsung. 

If you wish you can change or delete the screen time goal from the same page:

  1. Tap on the screen time goal.
  2. On the detailed screen time goal page, tap on three-vertical dots .
  3. Either tap on Change Goal to change the screen time goal or tap on Delete Goal to delete the screen time goal.

App Timers

If you are using certain apps more than you should, then you can set a timer to help manage your usage of these specific apps from the Digital Wellbeing and Parental Control menu.

  1. Find the App Timers heading and tap on it.
  2. To see apps without any category tap on Apps from the top right of the current page, and for the otherwise tap on Categories.
  3. After that, choose the app that you want to set a timer to manage the screen time of this app and tap on Set Timer from below the page.
  4. Choose the days, hours, and minutes and tap on Done.
  5. In order to delete the app timer, either tap on three-vertical dots and tap on Delete respectively or tap and hold on the app timer until you see the Delete button at the bottom of the screen.

Driving and Walking Monitor

As long as you enable the driving monitor and walking monitor, your Samsung device detects the driving and walking actions and saves the data to show for both screen time while driving and walking.

As it is mentioned in the introduction, some of the options might not be available for older Samsung devices than Samsung Galaxy S8.
